Born in Argentina, he already created his first exhibition in a Buenos Aires bookshop in 1962. But 1963 is the year to remember: in fact, Mafalda is born, the little-big girl, the character who will characterize his entire artistic life.
The strips of Mafalda have an immediate success in Argentina on El Mundo and in Italy where Quino moved in 1973. His first volume in Italy is called “Mafalda la contestataria” presented by a preface by Umberto Eco. In 1973 he left Mafalda "to be short of ideas" and moved to Milan.
In 1977 he won the Golden Date and in 1978 the Palme d'Or. In August 2010 the French Minister of Culture and Communication Frédéric Mitterrand appointed him a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters.
On 30 September 2020 Quino dies at the age of 88
ASSOCIAZIONE SALONE INTERNAZIONALE UMORISMO
The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts! From the choice of the drawings, to the preparation of the panels (always the same every year), to the posting with various pins of the hundreds of drawings up to the presence on stage.
We therefore want to thank, in absolutely no order but with equal contributions, all those who come to mind, apologizing if we miss some, but we are ready to fix it!
