19th Edition of the International Exhibition of Humor

Theme of the year: THE CIRCUS AND THE CLOWNS

  • The theme is particularly felt in our province where, in the mid-fifties, in Imperia, Charles Adrien Wettach, famous Swiss circus performer, known as Grock, spent the last years of his life. In fact, the drawings are exhibited in the Villa Museum of Imperia.

    Humorists from 19 countries participate and around 500 drawings are exhibited.

    Freddy Sigg, Switzerland, is awarded the Palme d'Or; Adolf Born, Czech Republic, wins the Golden Date for the Fixed Theme and Marino Guarguaglini curates the poster. Umberto Domina wins the Palme d'Or for Humorous Literature with "Contains dried fruit".

The Awards

The Salone recognizes the artistic qualities of the participants in drawing and literature with several awards. Some prestigious institutions have wanted to add their patronage such as the Council of Europe, the Presidency of the Republic, the City of Bordighera and various other regional bodies and private foundations. The main prizes that are awarded by juries of outstanding personalities are the Palme d'Or trophy which represents the highest recognition for the Authors, the Golden Date and the Silver Date.

    The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts!
