Theme of the year: PEACE AND LOVE
The theme has a Franciscan flavor and had already appeared in 1959, when the event still had a pioneering character; the cartoons on display centered on the goal of moving the smile but above all of making people meditate on the horrors of war. In recent editions, albeit indirectly, this theme has been present: in 1980 there was talk of the Moscow Olympics and in the cartoons bombs appeared inside the Olympic circles, in 1979 the theme was "Oil" and in the background tanks are seen. Last year the theme was "City to live" and even here around the corner the guns were sticking out. As if to say, the humorists, through the Salone, are clearly pacifists and they do not fail to prove it.
Hans Stenzel, West Germany, is awarded the coveted Palme d'Or; Carlos Villar Aleman, Cuba, wins the Golden Date for the Fixed Theme and Jurg Furrer designs the poster.
Felice Andreasi wins the Palme d'Or for Humorous Literature with "D'amore si muore".
On July 26, the Hon. Gianfranco Orsini inaugurates the Salone and Luciana Lanzarotti presents the award ceremony for the books and Pippo Franco, who receives a Palme d'Or for sympathy, enlivens the award ceremony evening.
“Bordighera in Belgrade” is the title of an exhibition and a tribute to the humorous weekly Jez al Salone, with which it has had fruitful and friendly relations for years. The exhibition includes about fifty cartoons by authors from various Italian regions.
