Theme of the year: TELEVISION AND CINEMA A SMILE IN THE IMAGE
An edition particularly rich in drawings thanks also to the connection with the European Community which dedicates 1988 as the European Year of Cinema and Television. The designs are all with good graphics and a subtle ironic vein. Television beats cinema. Will this also be the case in the future?
Hanspeter Wyss, Switzerland, wins the Palma d'Oro for Design; Peter Kaste, Germany, wins the Dattero d'Oro for the Fixed Theme and Giorgio Gabellini designs the poster. Hon. Giulio Andreotti wins the Palma d'Oro for humorous literature with "Onorevole, stia zitto".
The week of the exhibition is full of events: the Hon.Giulio Andreotti inaugurates the Salone in addition to receiving the Palma d'Oro; Beppe Grillo receives the special Palma d'Oro for "Topo Galileo" a film of which he is the main interpreter; Renato Pozzetto, Alberto Tomba and Sergio Endrigo are guests of honor at the award ceremony. and above all Max Bunker celebrates Alan Ford's twentieth anniversary with a special comic entitled "Bordighera o morte".
The Salone recognizes the artistic qualities of the participants in drawing and literature with several awards. Some prestigious institutions have wanted to add their patronage such as the Council of Europe, the Presidency of the Republic of Italy, the City of Bordighera and various other regional bodies and private foundations. The main prizes that are awarded by juries of outstanding personalities are the Palme d'Or trophy which represents the highest recognition for the Authors, the Golden Date and the Silver Date
The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts! From the choice of the drawings, to the preparation of the panels (always the same every year), to the posting with various pins of the hundreds of drawings up to the presence on stage.
We therefore want to thank, in absolutely no order but with equal contributions, all those who come to mind, apologizing if we miss some, but we are ready to fix it!
