Theme of the year: VENICE IS TO BE SAVED
The theme, Venice is to be saved, will prove to be one of the greatest successes in the history of the Salone, due to the interest in the issue and the emotionality that only Venice can arouse. undertakes to exhibit the drawings in its headquarters in Strasbourg and in those of other European capitals. The momentum and the chorus of humorists is unanimous and well represented by the drawing by Lucio Trojano: a gondola that sinks into stamped paper!
Vasquez de Sola, Spain, is awarded the Palme d'Or, while Lucio Trojano, Italy, wins the Golden Date of the Fixed Theme and Benito Jacovitti designs the manifesto. Terzoli & Vaime, Italy, win the Palm d'Oro for Humor Literature with "To love means ..."
96 nations participate with over 1,000 designs.
Mimma Mondadori, art dealer and publisher, receives a special award dedicated to the Mondadori Publishing House.
The singer Tony Renis and the pianist Biligova cheer up the award ceremony.
The Salone recognizes the artistic qualities of the participants in drawing and literature with several awards. Some prestigious institutions have wanted to add their patronage such as the Council of Europe, the Presidency of the Republic, the City of Bordighera and various other regional bodies and private foundations. The main prizes that are awarded by juries of outstanding personalities are the Palme d'Or trophy which represents the highest recognition for the Authors, the Golden Date and the Silver Date.
ASSOCIAZIONE SALONE INTERNAZIONALE UMORISMO
The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts! From the choice of the drawings, to the preparation of the panels (always the same every year), to the posting with various pins of the hundreds of drawings up to the presence on stage.
We therefore want to thank, in absolutely no order but with equal contributions, all those who come to mind, apologizing if we miss some, but we are ready to fix it!
