Theme of the year: ADVERTISING
The theme intends to investigate the role of advertising in conveying correct information to the general public and whether this information should reflect reality or how legitimate it is to interpret it. It also discusses how much media space is suitable or right and how much too much is. The general feeling, however, underlines the intrusiveness of advertising in everyday life, as evidenced by the Russian Sergei Tunin with even the sponsored moon.
Draftsmen from over 32 countries participate with about 800 cartoons, with an interesting increase in the presence of Turkish and Genoese authors!
The Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Galeazzo Sforza, officially inaugurates the Exhibition. The fact has a double value: for the importance of the person and for the anniversary, the 25th year of the foundation of the Council of Europe. An honor for the Salone and for Bordighera! Not only that, the Council of Europe awards a special medal to Cesare Perfetto "for having contributed, through the Hall of Humor, to promoting friendship and brotherhood among peoples".
Guido Clericetti, Italy, is awarded the Palme d'Or, Giuliano Rossetti, Italy, the Golden Date of the Fixed Theme and Dogan / Balcioglu, Turkey, design the manifesto. Domenico Campana, Italy, wins the Palme d'Or for Humorous Literature with "Promessi in U.S.A.".
The preview screening of the film “Peynet's Lovers Around the World”, a cartoon feature film, directed by Cesare Perfetto with music by Ennio Morricone and Alessandro Alessandroni. A space-time journey of the two sweethearts who watch the world pass under them with disenchanted eyes. “An emblematic world tour that makes this feature film an important proposal whose fabric is clearly not for cartoons”, declares Giorgio Saviane in the Literary Fair magazine.
Francesco Guccini, "folk author who always seeks a humorous counterpoint" is awarded the A.A.S.T. of Bordighera. Followed by a cheerful visit to the Cantina di Dolceacqua, with flasks and guitars.
The Salone recognizes the artistic qualities of the participants in drawing and literature with several awards. Some prestigious institutions have wanted to add their patronage such as the Council of Europe, the Presidency of the Republic, the City of Bordighera and various other regional bodies and private foundations. The main prizes that are awarded by juries of outstanding personalities are the Palme d'Or trophy which represents the highest recognition for the Authors, the Golden Date and the Silver Date.
The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts! From the choice of the drawings, to the preparation of the panels (always the same every year), to the posting with various pins of the hundreds of drawings up to the presence on stage.
We therefore want to thank, in absolutely no order but with equal contributions, all those who come to mind, apologizing if we miss some, but we are ready to fix it!
