Theme of the year: FEMINISM AND ANTIFEMINISM
It starts already on May 26 with the inauguration, at the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg, of the exhibition "Venice is to be saved". The event is attended by Peynet, Trojano and Pelotsh, awarded by the Council of Europe. The Hon. Giulio Andreotti, President of the Council of Ministers.
The theme expresses a dualism, typical of the time. A dualism that is well reflected in the irony of Jeno Dallos who in a street represents on one side a man with a group of women in tow and on the other side the opposite of him. Two parallel worlds which, however, are destined to intersect. In fact, even the Afghan Rahim Nevin dreams of modernity and therefore shortens the skirt up to above the knee, or Petr Jurena's wife who carries books in her shopping bag while her husband waits at the table with an empty plate in front of him.
Finally, the manifesto by Spaniard Vasquez de Sola effectively interprets the quiet force of feminism.
A particularly interesting edition with about a thousand drawings from 34 nations including the Soviet Union and People's China, confirming the importance of the theme.
Ferruh Dogan and Semih Balcioglu, Turkey, are awarded ex-aequo the Palme d'Or, Dante Petrini, Italy, the Golden Date of the Fixed Theme and Nehar Tublek, Turkey, designs the manifesto. Giancarlo Del Re, Italy, wins the Palme d'Or for Humorous Literature with "Roma della gente".
Paolo Cresci's “Umorvisti a Bordighera” is published, an ironic collection of photographic portraits of humorists and personalities from the world of the Salone.
Guest of honor at the award ceremony is Sandra Mondaini who receives the Peynet-SOA Prize with this motivation: "from the stage and from the screen, from radio and television, an actress of sparkling talent and a delightful messenger of a smile".
The Salone recognizes the artistic qualities of the participants in drawing and literature with several awards. Some prestigious institutions have wanted to add their patronage such as the Council of Europe, the Presidency of the Republic, the City of Bordighera and various other regional bodies and private foundations. The main prizes that are awarded by juries of outstanding personalities are the Palme d'Or trophy which represents the highest recognition for the Authors, the Golden Date and the Silver Date.
The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts! From the choice of the drawings, to the preparation of the panels (always the same every year), to the posting with various pins of the hundreds of drawings up to the presence on stage.
We therefore want to thank, in absolutely no order but with equal contributions, all those who come to mind, apologizing if we miss some, but we are ready to fix it!
